Begging has become a common feature of every High Street in the country. In Darlington, the 700 Club are seeking to meet the needs of those begging so that they don't need to beg. Our experience shows us that although such individuals often claim to be homelessness, they very rarely are. Some people beg to feed an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Some just see it as easy money.

Alongside meeting the needs of those who beg, we are also seeking to ask members of the public to think before giving money; an act of generosity can be very destructive if the money is used to buy drugs or causes people to stay out on the street in sub-zero temperatures, putting their health at risk, in anticipation of getting easy money.

Beggars in Darlington raise about £40 per day, though we do know of individuals who have raised as much as £170 in three hours.
