Elsie Wylie moved to Darlington ion 1966 to take on the Headship of George Dent Nursery. When she retired she directed her energies to helping the most vulnerable in the Darlington community. She never gave up on people. When Darlington Nightstop started in 1992, she immediately signed up to be a host - taking a vulnerable young person into her home for the night. Many young people have cause to grateful for the sanctuary she provided over  a number of years. Indeed, when she was 78 she was given an award for being the longest serving Nightstop host in the country. And again, when the 700 Club was launched on the basis of 700 people donating £50 towards the cost of establishing a hostel, she was at the from of the queue.
